Laboratory Medicine

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Laboratory Medicine Department is located in level 3 and level 4 of the hospital. The Laboratory services were started to serve patients on July,2019, at the time of dengue epidemic. Since then, the laboratory has expanded its service and serving the patients from indoor & outdoor including the period of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Laboratory comprises most disciplines linked to patient care including clinical pathology, haematology, histopathology, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology & transfusion medicine. The Departments are designed with skilled manpower and equipped with modern automated analyzers.

The Head of Laboratory Medicine Department as well as Clinical Pathology Laboratory is Dr. Ina Rahim, Senior Consultant, Clinical pathology. Routine hematological tests including PBF, CBC, ESR; urine R/M/E, stool R/E, faecal fat analysis etc are performed here.

The laboratory tests related to biochemistry are also done in Clinical Pathology laboratory. We are equipped with fully automated analyzers. All the routine biochemical tests such as, blood glucose, lipid profile, serum electrolytes, bilirubin, SGPT, SGOT, ALP, serum creatinine, serum total protein, albumin, calcium, LDH,CRP etc. are done here.

We have modern immunology analyzer to perform different hormone & tumor marker tests. Beside these, we perform blood grouping & Rh typing & different serological tests in ICT method such as HBsAg, Anti HCV, HIV, Syphilis, H.Pylori antigen, Pregnancy test, Dengue NS1 Ag, Dengue IgG & IgM etc on regular basis.

SERVICE / FACILITIES

Microbiology

Microbiology Laboratory is headed by Dr. Khandakar Hafiza Khanam, Assistant Professor, Microbiology. The Microbiology laboratory is performing RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Test to detect COVID-19 and serving successfully during COVID-19 pandemic. Very soon we will start Blood culture and sensitivity, wound swab C/S, urine C/S, stool C/S, Gram staining, ZN staining & some other microbiological tests in this department.

Histopathology

Histopathology laboratory is headed by Dr. Fahmida Akter Rima, Assistant Professor, Pathology. This Laboratory is now performing histopathological examinations of all kinds of biopsy specimen including some special stain preparations. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) along with cytological examination are going on successfully .Frozen section and immunohistochemistry will start very soon in this Laboratory.

Transfusion Medicine

We have a plan to start the Transfusion Medicine laboratory with modern equipment & skilled manpower. The process in ongoing and we are hopeful to start the Laboratory very soon.

Thus, Department of Laboratory Medicine, SRNGIH is serving patients with a plan to expand our services so that the patients from this Specialized Hospital can get complete Laboratory services support from us.
